Obligations for Dealing with Agents' Connicts

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a model in which a formal characterization of obligations is used to constrain BDI agents to a socially eecient behavior in connictual 2x2 games. This model shows how obligations can play the role of providing incentives for self interested agents. The presence of a third BDI agent ensures the respect of obligations so that the parties behave in a socially eecient way.

Obligations and Cooperation: Two Sides of Social Rationality
Even if, at first sight, deciding whether to respect obligations and coordinating cooperation seems two unrelated behaviors, they are both grounded in the social rationality of agents: in fact, they depend on the ability of predicting the actions of other agents. In this paper, we present a proposal for managing anticipatory coordination, which is used to regulate the autonomy of and to control...
متن کاملObligations in a BDI Agent Architecture
This paper presents a conceptual model that adds mental states, capable of dealing with social elements, to BDI architectures. It has long been recognized that social elements enhance multi-agent performance. Ideas for extending BDI architectures to incorporate norms, values and obligations are presented. Norms and values endow multi-agent systems with social attributes thereby facilitating the...
متن کاملDealing with Privacy Obligations in Enterprises
This paper focuses on the problem of dealing with privacy obligations in enterprises. Privacy obligations dictate expected behaviours, tasks and constraints that must be satisfied when handling personal and confidential data. This includes being compliant with data retention policies and satisfying constraints dictated by customers’ opt-in and opt-out choices. It is important for enterprises to...
متن کاملDynamic Normative Reasoning Under Uncertainty: How to Distinguish Between Obligations Under Uncertainty and Prima Facie Obligations
The deontic update semantics is a dynamic semantics for prescriptive obligations based on Veltman's update semantics, in which the dynamic evaluation of connicts of hierarchic obligations naturally leads to defeasibility. In this paper we use this dynamic semantics to study the diagnostic problem of defeasible deontic logic. For example, consider a defeasible obligationòught to be done' togethe...

This article describes how to use the Negotiating Agents approach on a telecommunications platform. Negotiation is used in this approach to resolve connicts between features of one user and of diierent users. The theory behind the approach is discussed brieey. Methods for implementing the approach are given along with the methods for deening IN features in terms of the Negotiating Agents approa...
